Flu Shot Facts:
Who should get a shot?

  • Anyone 65 years of age or older.
  • Nursing home or long-term care facility residents.
  • People with chronic lung or heart disorders
  • People with impaired immune systems.
  • Children 6 months up to 18 years who are on long-term aspirin treatment.
  • Women who will be at least 6 months pregnant or deliver during the flu season.
  • Health care workers.
  • Anyone living with others in a high-risk group for flu.

Consult with  your doctor before getting an influenza vaccination if you have ever had a serious allergic reaction to eggs or a previous dose of influenza vaccine, or have a history of Guillain-Barr Syndrome.

If you are moderately or severely ill at the time the shot is scheduled you should usually wait until you recover before getting influenza vaccine. Talk to your doctor or nurse about rescheduling the vaccination.
